We have always been a band concerned with looking forwards rather than back. And, as we approach our 30th Anniversary, we find ourselves in an almost unique and privileged position: we can go on tour (the most recent Today Is A Good Day tour featured 90 shows in 20 countries) and play our current material with barely a nod to our long history and our audience accept and appreciate this. There is almost no other 'old' band who could make the same boast. However, to mark the 30 years, this Autumn we will indulge in a moment of nostalgia and pride in what we have created. Each weekend we'll be in a city for a two-night stand. The format of the shows will be two sets on each night - the first starting acoustically and building up over 50 minutes or so. Then a short 20 minute break before another full-on set of up to 100 minutes including encores. The following evening we will do the same but with 100% different material.
Our promise is to play at least 4 songs from each of the 13 studio albums (including the two B Sides/Lost Songs compilations). These will not be played in chronological order, or album by-album, but a random choice. It's possible that we may also feature guest appearances from friends and former members on some nights but we make no promises at this point. We hope also to include a display of at least a small part of the New Model Army 'One Tribe' Exhibition of original artwork and memorabilia - depending on the nature and geography of the venue.
We will make further announcements as the shows get nearer.
Looking forward to it,
Justin Sullivan

More likely to play Reykjavik than Detroit, and more likely to release songs on flexi-discs in Dutch comic books than provide MP3s on their website, Shellac will always be known for doing it their way. Being able to operate completely outside the typical machinations of music -- independent or otherwise, their press sheets typically exclaimed "no free lunch," referring to promo copies -- the trio carved out a sizable niche in the sewage-infested gutters of underground rock & roll.

We've got some good news, and We've got some bad news. The bad news is that summer is almost over, and you know what that means: back to school, where no one even knows ANYTHING. Teachers are the worst! They're almost worse than PARENTS. Sure, you get a new Trapper Keeper and probably some oversized Marithe Francois Girbauds that you can grow into, but we all know it's hardly a fair trade off. But I also have some good news. Videogum is putting together a Back to School Comedy Show and Party. You should come! Unfortunately for babies in diapers, it is 21 and over, but look at this great line up!!!!!!

Cramazing! Probably some special guests, too! And after the comedy show, we can all hang out and sign each other's yearbooks! The best part is the whole show is FREE. You can save your milk money for its intended purpose: milk. I have complete confidence in saying that this is going to be the best Comedy Show and Party of the first half of the first semester! LALA BROOKS
Brooklyn-born LaLa Brooks was the youngest member of The Crystals, just 15, when she sang lead vocal on the 'Wall Of Sound' classics "Da Doo Ron Ron" and "Then He Kissed Me" at Gold Star studios in Los Angeles for producer Phil Spector. ("A cloudburst of handclaps, Don Randi's driving piano triplets and honking saxes, Hal Blaine's drum fills rattling like gunfire, "Da Doo Ron Ron" is probably the most irrepressibly exhilarating song that Spector ever recorded. LaLa Brooks's vocal a gust of sheer, heart-lifting lovestruck joy." - Mick Brown, Tearing Down the Wall of Sound: The Rise and Fall of Phil Spector.) In 1968, LaLa appeared in the original Broadway production of the musical 'Hair,' where she performed the song "Aquarius." She also toured with and recorded for various artists (such as the Neville Brothers, Bobby Womack and Isaac Hayes), made short appearances in films, and contributed songs to different movie soundtracks (including the 1970 classic, Cotton Comes to Harlem). Currently, LaLa is currently backed by Boston's Jenny Dee & The Deelinquents.
JENNY DEE & THE DEELINQUENTS
Jenny Dee made her start with the Boston bands The Downbeat 5 and The Dents before indulging her love for the girl-group and soul sounds of the 1960s. "There isn't a music on earth that better suits [Jenny Dee's] voice than girl-group-era r&b, straight up, and that what she's singing here -- with bonus points for writing songs that hold their own next to the classics." -The Boston Phoenix
NOUVELLAS
Dansettes alumni Nouvellas have come on the scene armed with the same pop sensibility coupled with simmering dual lead vocals and a grittier no-nonsense band paying tribute not only to the classic soul bread-and-butter that fed their previous incarnation, but to country, rock'n'roll and even heavy metal.

"Talking to Girls about Duran Duran" is his latest book, a poignant tour of his 1980s adolescence, as told through music of the decade. ROCKS OFF PRESENTS
Making their debut at a local Pittsburgh radio station in 1993, Anti-Flag got together for the sake of responding to their disgust at religion, nationalism, and fascism. Justin Sane (vocals/guitar), Andy Flag (bass/vocals), and Pat Thetic (drums) bopped around their hometown much to the dismay of skinheads while recruiting a following who proudly wore torn-up upside-down flags as patches. In 1997, after releasing a handful of singles, opening for their idols the U.K. Subs, the Exploited, and the Circle Jerks, and briefly touring the East Coast -- which led to the departure of Andy Flag -- Die for the Government was released, and 20,000 copies, four bassists, and four North American tours later, Anti-Flag gained their reputation for recapturing the old-school ethics of punk: fast, loud, obnoxious, and anti-everything that ends with an "ism."

Although they may have faced their fair share of tragedy, The Bloodsugars are not in the business of writing sad songs. With the unique brand of exhilarating, polished synth-pop that they've become known for, The Bloodsugars' newest full-length, I Can't Go On, I'll Go On, is a collection of songs about finding the transformative potential in hardship - about taking frustration and sadness and turning it into something that is both beautiful and exciting.
"Blending the poppy sensibilities of Phoenix with the effortless grooves of Neon Indian, Brooklyn four-piece the Bloodsugars create a heady rush of feel-good psychedelic buzz guaranteed to get even the staunchest of scenesters moving." - Spinner
"No matter how low your blood sugar, when you hear these songs you'll go on, and find yourself in the mood to dance. The irresistible beats and catchy hooks of this tight synth-pop quartet would enhance any party." - The New Yorker

Iggy Pop was wrong. There is, in fact, fun.
Fun is what happens when three extraordinarily talented musicians come together to create something altogether new and wonderful. Nate Ruess, late of The Format, has teamed up with ex-Anathallo multi-instrumentalist Andrew Dost and Steel Train's Jack Antonoff, resulting in their ingenious debut, "AIM AND IGNITE." The trio melds a stunning array of diverse inspirations - spanning Broadway to The Beach Boys, "NILSSON SCHMILSSON" to "PINKERTON" - into an irresistible collection of freewheeling pop songcraft. Songs like "Benson Hedges" and "All The Pretty Girls" are fit to burst with richly prolix lyricism and intricate melodic twists and turns, which provide plenty of room for Ruess' distinctive vocals to soar. With "AIM AND IGNITE," Fun have crafted something special indeed, a contemporary rethinking of classic 70s pop, where ornate arrangements and inspired orchestrations meet present-day rock 'n' roll.

Like most bands, Australia's Hoodoo Gurus were largely the product of their influences; unlike most bands, however, the Hoodoos channeled their inspiration from the vast entirety of the American pop cultural landscape, drawing on such disparate sources as B-movies, bad sitcoms, and junk food -- in tandem with the usual suspects like garage-rock, power-pop, and surf -- to create a distinctly kitschy and catchy sound. Formed in Sydney in 1981, Le Hoodoo Gurus (as they were originally dubbed) were led by singer/songwriter Dave Faulkner, who along with drummer James Baker previously served as a member of the short-lived Perth punk unit The Victims (best known for the autobiographical single "Television Addict"). Ex-Scientists Rod Radalj and Kimble Rendall rounded out the group's initial lineup, and their unique sound (three guitars, no bass) -- along with Faulkner's infectious songs -- quickly earned them a record deal. After issuing the 1982 debut single "Leilani," both Radalj and Rendall quit, and were replaced by former Super-K/Fun Things guitarist Brad Shepherd and bassist Clyde Bramley.
In 1998, the Gurus announced they were splitting up, and the career-spanning compilation Ampology was issued in 2000. Two years later, Dave Faulkner, Brad Shepherd, and Mark Kingsmill were working together again as members of the garage-influenced the Persian Rugs, and in 2004, after Faulkner had reworked "What's My Scene" from Blow Your Cool as a theme song for an Australian rugby team, the band reunited (with Rick Grossman returning on bass), staging a successful tour down under and releasing a new album, Mach Schau. In 2009 the Hoodoo Gurus inked a deal with Sony Music Australia, resulting in their ninth full-length album, 2010's Purity of Essence.

There's been a subtle shift in gear, evidence of a growing confidence - the music gravitates from sparse to rich and textured arrangements yet never loses its etherealness and charm.
Travelling has been an integral part of the Stone's musical story so it's not surprising they opted to record in a number of diverse locations around the globe - an old sawmill on the river banks of Fowey, Cornwall, a studio in Brooklyn, a water tank in Coolangatta, their second home - London - and Queens in New York.

NICK LOWE
GERAINT WATKINS
In the early part of his career, Nick Lowe was at the forefront of both the pub and punk rock movements in Britain. As bassist and songwriter with Brinsley Schwarz, he helped set the standard for pub rock, which when energized by Dr. Feelgood had a strong influence on the 70's British punk scene. His composition "(What's So Funny) About Peace, Love And Understanding" (originally recorded by The Brinsleys) became a standard for Elvis Costello. Stepping out as a solo artist in the middle of the decade, Nick's classic 45 of "So It Goes"/"Heart Of The City" was the first record on the legendary Stiff label. Nick's masterful stylings of the era were best described by the U.S. title of his first solo album: "Pure Pop For Now People". He enjoyed his greatest solo success shortly thereafter, with "Cruel To Be Kind". During this time he was also a member of the seminal British rock'n'roll band Rockpile, alongside pub rock alumni Dave Edmunds, Billy Bremner and Terry Williams.
He has to continued to maintain his high standards. His most recent album, "At My Age" (Yep Roc) is one of the most highly acclaimed of his career. While to some degree he has gone back to the lower key sounds of Brinsley Schwartz, his songwriting has continued to evolve masterfully.
In recent years he has performed solo, but this show will feature a full band. Longtime keyboard accompanist Geraint Watkins will open with a set of his own.

Since 1995, Cloud Cult has been quietly crafting sprawling, cathartic albums. Founder Craig Minowa wrote, recorded and released the first Cloud Cult album The Shade Project in 1995 using the closet of his small Minneapolis apartment as his recording studio. Over the next 15 years Cloud Cult released Who Killed Puck (2000), They Live on the Sun (2003), Aurora Borealis (2004), Advice from the Happy Hippopotamus (2005), The Meaning of 8 (2007), and Feel Good Ghosts (Tea-partying Through Tornadoes) (2008). In addition, they released a documentary DVD No One Said It Would Be Easy on April 21st, 2009 and at the end of 2009 the band released a double-disc reissue of They Live on the Sun and Aurora Borealis as well as a limited re-release of Lost Songs from the Lost Years (2002).
What started out as a solo project for Craig in '95 has grown into a musical collective consisting of cellist Sarah Young, violinist Shannon Frid, painters Connie Minowa and Scott West, bassist Shawn Neary (formerly of Tapes N Tapes), and drummer Arlen Peiffer. The band has toured the US extensively and played several high profile festivals including Coachella, Monolith Festival, and the 10,000 Lakes Festival. In addition, they had one of their songs - "Lucky Today" - featured in a national TV campaign for Esurance, the band and their music were featured on the Weather Channels' Forecast Earth, they had their music featured on "Gossip Girl" and they made their late night TV debut on Last Call with Carson Daily.

Legendary musician Roky Erickson's first new album in fourteen years, True Love Cast Out All Evil is in stores now. Produced by Will Sheff and featuring his band Okkervil River backing Erickson, the record is comprised largely of unreleased songs that Austin, Texas native Erickson wrote throughout his decades-long career - detailing with heart-breaking candor a harrowing life that has included shock treatment, imprisonment, mental illness, and irreversible loss. With a wisdom that can only be marshaled by someone who has been through all of this, Erickson also interjects the songs with love, hope, and spiritual grace.
Erickson's band The Thirteenth Floor Elevators burst on to the scene in 1966 with the hit "You're Gonna Miss Me," a snarling proto-punk song written by Erickson when he was just 15. The Elevators and the charismatic Erickson would be largely credited with igniting the garage rock movement and being one of the first psychedelic bands. The reverberations of the band's distinctive sound can still be heard today with Erickson's songs having been interpreted by the likes of R.E.M., ZZ Top, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Primal Scream, Spacemen 3, Julian Cope, Radio Birdman and others.

TRISTAN PRETTYMAN
Tristan Prettyman, a San Diego native, has come a long way since she discovered her dad's guitar and taught herself to play at age 15.
After catching some local attention, she was asked to contribute a song to the 2001 surf film "Shelter". Soon Prettyman was performing at clubs and bars around San Diego, selling her EP, The Love EP, at shows and on her website. From there, the major labels came calling and Prettyman signed with Virgin Records, who released Twentythree in August of 2005. Critics praised its low-key acoustic folk-pop with Rolling Stone leading the pack, calling Prettyman "one of the more promising young pop folkies."
Her sophomore album, Hello, was released in April of 2008 and entered the Billboard Top 200 sales chart at No. 27. The first single "Madly" was the iTunes Single of the Week and the complete Hello album download immediately spiked to the No. 2 position in overall iTunes album sales.
After having taken almost a year off from touring and recording, Tristan is getting ready for a 20-city tour throughout the U.S as well as working on her third Virgin Records release with famed producers Sacha Skarbek and Martin Terefe.
