THE FIRST ANNUAL BROOKLYN BRAIN JAM
THE FIRST ANNUAL BROOKLYN BRAIN JAM
Smart-asses unite! As an incubator of world culture, Brooklyn has no shortage of both entertainment and knowledge—in some cases, both at the same time. And now, after years of combining learning and fun on their own, four of NYC's smartest entertainment organizations come together for the first annual Brooklyn Brain Jam. Sharing the stage will be Nerd Nite, The Big Quiz Thing, Kevin Geeks Out, and The Story Collider, at Brooklyn’s marquee entertainment headquarters, The Bell House, for an extended afternoon of informal, social, silly, and slightly tipsy learning and fun Sunday, September 7, 2014.

For six hours, friends can come and go as they wish, enjoying fun yet informative presentations, playing the city's leading trivia game, being mesmerized by absurd pop culture musings, and listening to heartfelt personal stories. “I've known the delightful proprietors of The Big Quiz Thing, Kevin Geeks Out, and The Story Collider for years, and am a huge fan of their shows," says Matt Wasowski, Big Boss of Nerd Nite. “While a lot of my Nerd Nite audience members attend these other events, it can be difficult to attend so many separate shows in a given week or month. Now you can get a month's worth of content—and drinks—in one afternoon. You’re welcome, New York!”

“After more than a decade hosting the Big Quiz Thing, it’s been very gratifying to see my fellow nerds conquer NYC’s entertainment scene,” says BQT founder and senior quizmaster Noah Tarnow. “Now, joining forces with these other fine organizations, we can hopefully expand our dominance to something approaching global conquest. [Insane laugh].”

Nerd Nite (nerdnite.com) is a monthly event held in more than 75 cities across the globe, with folks giving 18-21-minute fun-yet-informative presentations across all disciplines—while the audience drinks along. It’s like the Discovery Channel—with beer.

Since 2002, The Big Quiz Thing (bigquizthing.com) has produced its multimedia trivia spectacular, for public and corporate clients nationwide. In 2013, the BQT created the world’s first bar-trivia television game show, on the NYC Life network and online.

Kevin Geeks Out (thiskevin.blogspot.com) is the comedy-variety show created by writer-comedian Kevin Maher. Each installment is a deep-drive into one specific sub-genre as it appears in popular culture. (Topics have included Werewolves, Robots, Batman, Wrestling, Dummy Deaths in film.) The multi-media show includes footage you won’t find on YouTube or Netflix.

Science surrounds us. Even when we don't notice it, science touches almost every part of our lives. At The Story Collider (storycollider.org), we find true, personal stories about how science made a difference, affected people, or changed them. Come hear stories about science from top comedians, lead scientists and more. Science has never made you laugh, or cry, this much.
