Cruel Summer: 80s + 90s Dance Party
Cruel Summer: 80s + 90s Dance Party
It’s the middle of the summer, and man, is it Hot in the City. But with the MTA in disrepair, it seems there’s no way we'll easily Escape From New York, so we'll just have to beat the heat with the next best thing: an 80s + 90s dance party Vacation from this cruel, cruel, Cruel Summer.

On Friday, August 11, go Back in Time for a night of Dancing in the Dark set to the soundtracks of the 80s and 90s. (And if the state of our country is any indication, there’s no better time to party like it’s, well, 1984. Or 1999.)

We'll be taking over two rooms of The Bell House with 80s anthems performed by kick-ass 10-piece cover band The Engagements, 90s hits spun by Party Like It's 1999's DJ Steve Reynolds, music video sing-alongs by SecretFormula, and 80s + 90s music videos from Music Video Time Machine.

Dress in your most era-appropriate attire and get ready to Jump Around, because we’ll be having a costume contest / dance-off for a mystery prize! And with drink specials aplenty, you can drink a whiskey drink, drink a vodka drink, drink a lager drink, or drink a cider drink.

Don’t spend another night sweating the lack of A/C in your apartment. Come out and party with us instead! Oh, and it’s at night. So obviously, wear your sunglasses.
The Engagements is an “alt-wedding band” based in Brooklyn, NY that plays a lot of 80’s covers, along with rare soul and Motown.

“The eleven instrument swappers who crowd The Engagements’ stage can do straight-up hits, but they’d rather be rocking ‘This Charming Man.’” - New York Magazine

“The premier ’80’s-covering wedding band.” - Paper Mag

The Engagements players have logged hours in the studio and on the road with the likes of Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings, Steely Dan, Harry Belafonte and Mali Music, Kat Edmonson, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Robin McKelle, French Kicks, David Byrne, Slick Rick, Morgan James, The Sweet Divines, John Forte, Mobb Deep, & Aloe Blacc.
