Maritess Zurbano
Born in Chicago and raised in Willowbrook, Illinois, Zurbano attended the School of the Art Institute, then moved to Las Vegas to become a professional magician. In 2000, she relocated to New York City to accept a digital media center artist-in-residency. Her performance art comments on power structure according to costume, and patriarchal expectations. When she attended a workshop at the Guggenheim with Guillermo Gómez-Peña, he inspired her to incorporate provocative social commentary with art.

“Misdirection,” her memoir, was edited during her residency at Hedgebrook. As a playwright and performer, her skills are showcased at prestigious festivals including the NYC Fringe Festival and the Ars Nova Festival. The New York Public Theater provided her with dramaturgy. All of her work across mediums, are autobiographical, and centered around the theme of magic, in order to make polarizing conversations about race, gender, and colonization palatable to a wider audience. She currently lives in Seattle.
Doug Smith
Doug Smith is a New York-based comic recently selected as one of the "New Face" at 2013 Just For Laughs Festival. Doug first started in the world of improv comedy in 2006 at the UCB theater, making the leap to stand-up in 2009. Since then his dark material and quick delivery has made him a regular in both the NYC alt scene and clubs across the city. He is the co-producer/co-host of See You In Hell!, one of the city's most beloved stand-up showcases, recently winning Best Experimental Show at the 1st annual The Creek and The Cave Awards. Doug is also a regular contributor to Laughcake, an online video roast site. When off stage, Doug enjoys curling up on the couch with his cat and a pot of green tea to watch PBS documentaries. He is one of the few known males to suffer from early onset menopause.
