JEAN AND JOHN
JEAN AND JOHN
Jean and John are friends. John Hodgman is still on television sometimes. Jean Grae used to rap more often. Just google them. The internet will tell you they have done a lot of stuff and had a lot of adventures and are the funniest, most charming people in the world. This is their variety show. Jean and John own a carnival wheel, and they write topics on the wheel, spin it, and talk about those things. Some topics have included “What Did You Dream Last Night?” “Lin-Manuel Miranda,” “Jean’s Hair,” and “John’s Privilege.” Some topics are suggested by the audience. Others are suggested by Jean and John’s guest. Jean and John know some amazing people from the worlds of music, comedy, books, film, and unscripted television. For example, that carnival talk-wheel? It was handmade by Adam Savage, a MYTHBUSTER. He won’t be at this particular show, however. The guest will be a surprise guest. And there will be at least one game and two songs, and basically this is going to be the most enjoyable night of your life. So please buy a ticket. Jean and John can’t wait to see you. It’s better when you’re there.
Jean Grae
Jean Grae
Jean Grae is a multi-hyphenate artist whose work integrates music, comedy, and visual media. In addition to musical collaborations with The Roots, Talib Kweli, and Robert Glasper, the critically acclaimed performer, director, soundtrack composer, and writer has released nearly two dozen self-produced and engineered independent albums; her work is even archived in The Yale Anthology of Rap and the Smithsonian National Museum of American History and Culture. Regular Bell House showgoers will know Grae from her Jean and John shows, with comedian John Hodgman. Pitchfork called Grae “one of the most gifted MCs ever” and describes her most recent LP Everything’s Fine as “a masterpiece of rap performance, blending dark comedy, cathartic narrative, and even vaudeville with a hip-hop soul.” As Grae says, she makes all the everything.

JOHN HODGMAN is a writer, comedian, and actor.

He is the author of three books of fake facts and invented trivia, all of them New York

Times Bestsellers, and his writing has also appeared in The Paris Review, This American

Life, The New Yorker, and Mad Magazine.

After an appearance to promote his books on “The Daily Show,” he was invited to return as

a contributor, serving as the show’s “Resident Expert” and “Deranged Millionaire.”

This let to an unexpected and, frankly, implausible career before the camera, becoming the

“Personal Computer” in a series of commercials for Apple computer, and more recently

playing recurring roles in FX’s MARRIED, HBO’s BORED TO DEATH, Cinemax’s THE

KNICK.

He has performed comedy for The President of the United States, at the TED conference,

and in a crypt in Green-Wood Cemetery. His apocalyptic comedy special RAGNAROK is

available on Netflix, and his subsequent one man comedy shows have played to sold out

audiences in many nice theaters around the country and in Canada.

Finally, he is the host of the popular JUDGE JOHN HODGMAN podcast, where he settles

serious disputes between real people, such as “Is a hot dog a sandwich?” and “Should we

tell our children the TRUTH about Santa Claus.” He also contributes a weekly column under

the same name for The New York Times Magazine
