Family Ghosts Live
Family Ghosts Live
Family Ghosts is a documentary-style storytelling podcast. In each episode, we investigate the true story behind a mysterious figure whose mythology has followed a family for generations. You'll meet grandmothers who were secretly jewel smugglers, uncles who led double lives, siblings who vanished without a trace, and you'll hear the ways their descendants are haunted by their legends. We are all formed in part by our familial collections of secrets, intrigues, and apocrypha. By engaging with each others’ legends, perhaps we can see each others’ realities more clearly.

Our live show will feature performances by:

Gastor Almonte (Comedy Central)

Micaela Blei (The Moth)

Ophira Eisenberg (NPR)

Gianmarco Soresi

Live music from The Peggy's and Shilpa Ananth

Telling stories, helping others tell theirs, and investigating the power of story to connect us, has been at the center of my work.

At The Moth, I am the Director of Community and Education Programs. I co-founded and designed The Moth High School StorySLAM Program with the incredible Catherine McCarthy, Education Program Manager for The Moth. We direct performance programs in schools across NYC, and create curriculum resources for educators worldwide.

As a researcher, educator and keynote speaker, I earned my PhD in Educational Theatre at NYU with a research focus on personal narrative performance and identity in the classroom. I've facilitated storytelling workshops, and given keynote addresses about my work, at SXSWEDU, Lincoln Center Institute, Penn State University, The New School, Yale University's Center for Innovative Thinking, Teachers College at Columbia University, and many others.

As a storyteller, I'm a two-time Moth GrandSLAM champion, regular Moth MainStage storyteller and have been featured on The Moth Radio Hour as well as several other excellent podcasts, including the acclaimed Panoply podcast Family Ghosts.

As a playwright, my solo show, The Secret Life of Your Third Grade Teacher, sold out at the 2016 NYC International Fringe Festival. You can find out more here and even bring me to your town or school.

As a writer of fiction and nonfiction for children, I'm currently working on a fictional adaptation of The Secret Life of Your Third Grade Teacher into a middle grade novel. It's an adventure about a (seemingly) hapless third grade teacher, the secrets she keeps, and the kids who have to save her.
